Om Shanti Om – This mantra is one of peace. It is said that all of the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra, and that to know the phrase is to know enlightenment. Om Mani Padme Hum – This mantra does not really have a literal translation, but is believed to invoke the powerful attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of Compassion. It can be repeated by anyone, anytime, no matter what state a person is in, it will purify him or her. It is said that if this mantra vibrates continuously in your heart, you have no need to perform austerities, to meditate, or to practice yoga, you will need to rituals, no ceremonies, and you do not need to be in a particular place or time to repeat it. Chanting this mantra is a way of bowing to your self. It is the name given to consciousness that dwells in all, your true identity. Om Namah Shivaya also means “I bow to Shiva”, Shiva being the supreme reality, the inner Self. It is said to lead to awareness in the reverse order from manifestation back to the source from which manifestation arose. Om Namah Shivaya – One of the most popular Mantras, Om Namah Shivaya represents the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space. It inspires an open heart, and wisdom within us, and basically says “May the divine light of the Supreme Being illuminate our intellect, to lead us along a path of righteousness.” Others translate the words Gayatri Mantra to mean “a prayer of praise that awakens the vital energies and gives liberation and deliverance from ignorance”. It is also said that this sacred prayer spirals through the entire universe from the heart of the chanter, appealing for peace and divine wisdom for all. It is believed that by chanting the mantra and firmly establishing it in your mind, if you carry on your life and do the work that is ordained for you, your life will be full of happiness. Gayatri Mantra – The Gayatri Mantra is one of the oldest and most powerful mantras, which was chronicled in the Rig Veda, a text written in Sanskrit about 2500 to 3500 years ago.
